finished quilt: cuadritos

I finished a quilt! I love it a lot too. Here's how it came about. :)

While at Hancock's of Paducah last fall, I bought some beautiful Cameo by the lovely Amy Butler.

Isn't it yummy?! Of course, I bought the fabric last September and just finished the quilt this month. So goes the life of a sewing lady who starts more projects than she finishes. ;)

This spring I finally sat down with Cameo and decided that I wanted to make a quilt using only this line- nothing else- and lots of white sashing.

This line is just so stunning and the colors are so saturated that I really wanted them to stand out. I thought that really thick, crisp white sashing would do just that.

I also decided that for the construction of this block, I would make six large squares- each made out of four smaller blocks, and each of those made out of four rectangles.

Don't you love the way seams look when they're ironed open? Makes my heart sing a Celine Dion song, I tell ya. :)

After I constructed the four small blocks out of four small rectangles and made large blocks out of those, I added the white sashing. Does any of this make sense? I didn't write down the measurements but if anyone's interested in making a similar quilt, let me know and I'll figure it out and write a tutorial.

Here's the finished quilt top on my bed! This is a great lap size quilt at 64" x 46"- perfect for napping on the couch. :)

I considered doing straight line quilting on this- my most favorite- but there are so many straight lines in this already that I thought it might be fun to add some softness with loops instead. So of course I called on my homegirl Jill to do the loopy quilting. :) If you're looking for a great quilter, hit her up!

I decided to make a scrappy binding for this guy- my favorite kind- and try out the Wonder Clips that I had recently purchased.

The Wonder Clips were GREAT!!! I have never had such an easy time with binding- it was really a dream. They're a bit expensive in a brick & mortar shop but you can find them on Amazon for a crazy low price.

Here's the finished quilt, full of crinkly goodness from the dryer!

Jill always does such a great job on the quilting.

I'm so pleased with how this turned out!!!

I call this quilt "Cuadritos"- Spanish for "little squares".

As luck would have it, the Cincinnati Modern Quilt Guild has been invited to have a showing at the Sew Original Quilt & Creative Expo in Louisville, Kentucky over Labor Day weekend and my quilt will be hanging in it! I've never had a quilt in a show before so I'm pretty darn excited. :) I didn't even know I needed to have one of those hangy things on the back but Jessica from {a little gray} is making one for me, because she rocks.
