on my nightstand

This is so embaressing... but I'm reading "Breaking Dawn" of the Twilight series. I know, I know... it's true. Here's some photographic evidence.

I am a pretty open-minded girl. That being said, I kinda hate that I've been reading such trendy junk books lately! Ugh. The thing is though... I like them! I read all three books in the Hunger Games series in December and after watching "Breaking Dawn" (and buying it at midnight the day it came out...), I knew that I had to know what happens! I couldn't wait until the fall when the next movie comes out! So, enter me reading a book in the Twilight series.
Ugh.

Hi, my name is Kara and I read chick lit.

There.

I said it.

Of course, I never read just one book at a time; here are some of the others residing in my Nook.

Do you have a Nook or another e-reader? Oh em gee, I LOVE mine! Heather and I got each other the Nook Tablets for Christmas and it's definitely one of  my favorite gifts ever. I have a real issue with clutter... I hate it! I love to throw things out like it's my job; this includes books (though they either go to friends or to Half Price Books). Books take up so much space and I would much rather use that space to display meaningful pictures, art and things we've picked up along our travels. I know most English graduate students have houses over flowing with books but for this girl, a Nook is the way to go! I can store all of my books in one concise, organized place plus there's a great annotating feature so I can go back and read my notes about what I've read.
My Nook case with a little Michael and Jackson thrown in for ya. :)

Despite my never ending love of my Nook, one of the very few types of books I'll always want to have a copy to physically flip through are sewing books. Just can't do it. I recently bought Tula Pink's newest book "Quilts from the House of Tula Pink: 20 Fabric Projects to Make, Use & Love" and it's AH-mazing!

Tula is about the quirkiest fabric designer out there and just seems like such an all around LOVELY person! I was so happy when I found out that she was publishing a book and knew that I needed to support this crafty girl!

The pictures in the book are gorgeous and there are such great tips to sewing! So many quilts I've seen in the blogosphere look so dang hard to replicate but Tula's tips that she shares in her book make it a frick of a lot less daunting! Especially that little triangle method... Tula if you're reading this, you have saved me from so much cursing at my sewing machine and rotary cutter. You don't even know. :)

Last but not least, I'm not currently reading this book but here's advanced warning that the third week of April I'll be giving away two copies of "Start Something that Matters" by Blake Mycoskie, the founder of TOMS shoes (and eyewear and books and shirts...)!

I had already bought and started reading this book when the kind folks over at TOMS sent me two copies- one for myself and one to give away on the blog- which works out great for you lovely readers, because now there are two to give away instead of one! Be sure to check back in during the week of April 16 to enter the give-away.

There you go, folks- some of the books I'm reading! Oh, by the way, I left out all of the super fascinating (...) graduate books and articles I'm currently reading. You're welcome. :)

  1. I love to know what people are reading. I am reading 'The Paris Wife' about Hemingway and his first wife. It' is really good. Book club last night discussed 'Bossypants' and now we are on to 'Unbroken' which I am a little afraid of. I read the old fashioned paper books. We did use the iPad some on the island, but now that we are home I love the real deal. Happy reading!

  3. Yes!! Tanya gave me a Kindle before I moved to Germany, and I read a lot of classics because they're free! There's nothing better than free... I mean classic... literature ;)
