cincinnati modern quilt guild hits the road

The Cincinnati Modern Quilt Guild was at the Sew Original Quilt & Creative Expo in Louisville, Kentucky over the weekend!
We had volunteers there throughout the three day event who [wo]manned a booth to highlight modern quilting and our community. Some of my contributions to the booth was the "Crafty Chicks are Hot" framed cross stitch that Lindsey made for me and Cat's beautiful sweet pouch swap, along with some in progress blocks on the design wall, a mini quilt and a Pyrex bowl filled with some of my favorite modern fabric scraps (that some lady tried to steal!).

I volunteered with Nancy on Saturday morning and she brought such great goodies to share! Here she is with a quilt top she has finished-

Isn't it gorgeous?! She also brought a quilt that she had finished and a bunch of magazines and books on modern quilting that she picked up at the library.

The books were such a great idea and were a great resource for folks who weren't familiar with modern quilting.

There was lots more in the booth that the lovely Jessica put up and many more volunteers throughout the weekend. Nancy and I had a great time!

We even got to meet Cara who is forming the MQG chapter in Louisville and one of her friends at the show!

If you're in the Louisville area and would like to meet up with them, click here for more information!

In addition to having a booth with goodies at the show, the Cincinnati Modern Quilt Guild had some of our quilts hanging in the show!

I've never had a quilt in a show before and it was SO FUN to see my quilt Cuadritos hanging on the stage!

What was really neat about seeing our quilts hanging at the show was that the quilt backs were just as beautiful as the fronts!
Nancy Brooks, Feeling Groovy

Amanda Klesmith, Winter Sunrise

Jessica Rider, Old World

All of our quilts looked so beautiful!!! I wasn't able to get pictures of all of them but here are a few more.
Heather Jones, Gelassenheit

Ellen McKee, Watching You Watching Me
Christy Meyer, Bullseye
Jill Montgomery, Spinnerie

There were a lot of other gorgeous quilts at the show, including these two by Pam Clark.
Look at that quilting!

This show was so much fun! I had a great time talking about Modern Quilting and got a TON of inspiration from the quilts that were on display. Hope to see you at a show soon!

xo, Kara

  2. Hey Kara. This is Cara from the Louisville modern quilt guild it was wonderful to meet you and I can't wait for our group to get together. If your guild members are interested in the Tula Pink 100 modern block of the month that the Cozy Quilter is doing, the shop is willing to ship them to you all as a group but they need final numbers asap so they can start cutting kits. Please give them a call at 1-502-742-2699 if you are still interested or want more information. My email is dreherc10 at gmail dot com and I would also be happy to answer questions. I have already started making some of the blocks from the book and they are so much fun!
